Why one map beats a folder full of network apps
India's public charging network is not one network. It is dozens of independent charge-point operators — Tata Power, Statiq, ChargeZone, JioBP Pulse, EESL, Zeon, Relux and many regional players — each running its own stations and its own app. An EV owner who relies on a single operator's app sees only a fraction of the chargers actually available, which is how people end up believing there is nothing nearby when three working stations sit within five kilometres.
This finder aggregates stations across operators into a single map so you see what genuinely exists around you, not what one company wants to show you. Each result carries the details that decide whether a charger is usable for your vehicle: the operator, the connector types on offer, the maximum power, the last reported operational status, the usage cost where it is published, and the distance from wherever you are searching. You can filter to fast DC chargers when you need speed, hide stations reported offline, and widen or narrow the search radius from five to twenty-five kilometres.
Understanding what you see on each station
Power rating is the headline figure, but it describes the charger's maximum, not what your vehicle will draw. A car limited to 50 kW DC will charge at 50 kW on a 120 kW charger, and charging speed tapers deliberately as the battery fills — which is why the 10 to 80 per cent window is where fast charging is genuinely fast, and why waiting for the last 20 per cent is usually a poor use of time.
Connector type decides compatibility. Most electric cars sold in India use CCS2 for DC fast charging and Type 2 for AC. Older or imported models may use CHAdeMO, and two-wheelers typically use light-duty or proprietary connectors. The station cards list every connector present, so you can confirm before driving rather than after arriving. Fast DC tags mark stations at 25 kW and above — the ones worth targeting on a journey, while AC points suit places you park for an hour or more anyway.
The reliability problem, and how this map handles it
The hardest part of public charging in India is not finding a charger. It is finding one that works. Industry data and owner experience both point the same way: a significant share of listed public chargers are non-functional at any given moment — broken connectors, offline payment systems, chargers blocked by parked petrol vehicles, or units simply unpowered. A map that lists stations without addressing this sends people on wasted journeys.
Two things help here. Each station shows its last reported operational status, and stations known to be offline can be hidden entirely with one filter. More importantly, EV owners using this map can report what they find — working, not working, or occupied — and those reports appear on the station with a timestamp, so the next driver sees something far more useful than a database entry: evidence from someone who was physically there recently. If you use a charger, taking two seconds to report it makes the map better for everyone behind you.
Regardless, treat any charger as provisional until you are plugged in. Keep a second option within range, avoid arriving at a single remote charger on very low charge, and where possible check in-app availability with the operator for stations you depend on regularly.
What public charging costs
Public charging in India is generally priced per unit of electricity consumed. Typical rates run ₹15–25 per kWh at DC fast chargers and somewhat less at AC points, though pricing varies by operator, city and time of day, and some networks add parking or session fees. In practical terms, adding 30 kWh to a car — roughly 200 to 250 km of real-world range for a mid-size EV — costs about ₹450 to ₹750 at a public fast charger.
That is still substantially cheaper than petrol, but far more expensive than charging at home, where domestic tariffs of ₹6–9 per unit apply. Charging on the road versus charging in the city
City charging and highway charging are different problems. In a city, you are looking for convenience: a charger near where you already need to be, ideally where you will spend 30 to 60 minutes anyway. Malls, office complexes, metro stations and restaurant clusters are where the useful chargers cluster, and an AC point is often perfectly adequate.
On a highway, you are looking for certainty. What matters is not the nearest charger but the sequence of chargers along your route and the distance between them, because a single long gap can strand you regardless of how many stations exist overall.
