Electric Bikes in India — prices, range & choosing
Electric Bikes are gaining ground fast in India thanks to low running costs and government EV incentives. Use the filterable list above to compare every model's price, ARAI range, battery capacity and charging time side by side.
Electric motorcycles in India: a smaller, faster-moving segment
Electric motorcycles occupy a different space from scooters. Where scooters are bought for economy and convenience, electric bikes are bought for performance, riding position and the experience of instant torque. The segment is smaller but has attracted some of India's most ambitious engineering — brands such as Ultraviolette, Revolt, Tork, Oben and Matter have built machines that compete on acceleration and handling rather than on running cost alone, and mainstream manufacturers are entering with their own platforms.
What makes an electric motorcycle different to ride
Torque arrives instantly and continuously, without a clutch or gear changes, which transforms city riding and overtaking. Weight distribution differs too, since the battery sits low in the frame, often giving a planted feel through corners. Several models are geared or offer multiple riding modes to balance acceleration against range. Regenerative braking recovers energy on deceleration, which both extends range and reduces brake wear. The absence of engine noise is polarising: some riders value the refinement, others miss the feedback, and manufacturers have responded with varying approaches to synthetic sound.
Range, charging and practical realities
Electric motorcycles typically claim 100 to 300 km of range, with real-world figures again running 20 to 30 per cent lower, and highway cruising consuming noticeably more than city riding. Most support standard AC charging with full charges in three to six hours, and an increasing number offer fast charging that reaches 80 per cent in under an hour. Because these machines are ridden harder than scooters, the gap between claimed and achieved range is often wider — enthusiastic riding is expensive in energy terms on any electric vehicle.
Who an electric motorcycle suits
The clearest case is a rider with home charging, a daily commute comfortably inside real-world range, and an interest in performance that a scooter cannot satisfy. The economics are still strongly favourable against a comparable petrol motorcycle, though the purchase premium is higher than in the scooter segment, so payback takes longer. Check service availability carefully before buying, since electric motorcycle networks are thinner than scooter networks and far thinner than petrol two-wheeler coverage, and confirm that the model's connector and charging approach suits where you will actually park.
