The biggest charge-point operators, networks and charger makers

India crossed 52,000 public EV charging stations in 2026, including about 16,500 fast chargers, according to government figures. But raw numbers hide the questions EV owners actually ask: which charging company is cheapest, which network covers my city, which one works when I arrive, and which app do I really need?
This is an independent comparison of the top EV charging companies in India. Unlike lists published by charging brands themselves, we don't operate a charging network and have no company to rank first. We run a live charging station map, and this page combines what operators publicly claim with what we can observe in public charging data.

EV charging prices compared — ₹ per kWh by company
This is the question every EV owner asks and almost no list answers. Public charging in India is priced per unit of electricity, and the spread between networks is wide enough to matter over a year of driving.

The detail nobody mentions: advertised rates are usually exclusive of 18% GST. A charger quoting ₹18/kWh actually bills around ₹21.24/kWh once tax is added. When you compare networks, compare like with like — and check whether the price shown in an app is inclusive before you judge it cheap.
Charging at home on a domestic tariff of ₹6–10 per unit remains dramatically cheaper than any public network. If you can install a home charge point, public charging becomes a road-trip tool rather than your main supply. You can model the difference on our EV vs petrol cost calculator.
Are charging membership plans worth it?
Several networks now sell subscriptions — Statiq Miles at ₹149/month for a flat 10% discount, and Jio-bp's Max plan bundling 600 kWh over five months at ₹18.25/kWh against a pay-as-you-go rate nearer ₹22. The maths is simple: a 10% discount on ₹22/kWh saves ₹2.20 per unit, so a ₹149 monthly pass breaks even at roughly 68 units — about 450–500 km of driving in a typical electric car. Above that you gain; below it you are paying for the privilege. Most private owners who charge mainly at home will not reach the threshold. Fleet drivers and heavy public-charging users will.
What public charging data actually shows
Every operator publishes its own network figure, and those numbers are impossible for a driver to verify. So we looked at it from the other direction: which operators actually appear in the public charging databases drivers use to find a charger.
On 9 August 2026 we queried Open Charge Map — the community database that powers many charging maps, including ours — across six metros within a 40 km radius of each city centre. It returned 299 listed stations. Here is how they broke down by operator.

Read this carefully, because it is easy to misuse. These are not national totals and they are not a verification of company claims. Open Charge Map's India coverage is incomplete, and networks built largely on private premises — Bolt.Earth's distributed model being the clearest example — are heavily under-represented because those chargers are never listed publicly. What the table does measure is discoverability: which operators an EV owner is most likely to actually find when searching for a charger.
The operators every other list forgets
The most interesting finding is who turns up in the data but not in the popular listicles. Shell Recharge registered 28 listed stations, 25 of them in Bengaluru, yet appears on almost no "top EV charging companies in India" list. Zeon Charging registered 19. Relux Electric registered 7 — and leads Chennai outright with 7 of the city's 17 listed stations. If you drive in Chennai, the operator most likely to be near you is one that national rankings ignore entirely.

Bengaluru dominates. It returned 174 listed stations — more than the other five metros combined — which matches its reputation as India's EV capital and reflects Karnataka's early EV policy. Mumbai and Hyderabad returned single digits, which says more about database coverage in those cities than about chargers on the ground, but it also tells an EV owner something practical: in Mumbai and Hyderabad you are far more dependent on individual operator apps, because the open databases simply don't have the data. India's charging data problem
One finding deserves its own mention: 77 of the 299 listed stations — 26% — had no operator attributed at all. More than a quarter of publicly listed chargers don't say who runs them. For a driver that means no way to know which app to open, what the tariff will be, or whom to contact when a charger fails. This, rather than the absolute number of chargers, is a large part of why public charging in India still feels unreliable — and it is the reason we added community reporting to our map, so EV owners can flag which chargers actually work.
The leading EV charging companies, profiled
1. Tata Power (EZ Charge)
The most established name in Indian public charging, and the closest thing to a default choice. Tata Power states more than 5,500 public and semi-public charging stations across 550+ cities, alongside over 100,000 home chargers and 1,100+ bus charging points. It offers AC units from 3 kW to 22 kW and DC fast charging up to 240 kW, with partnerships spanning Tata Motors, MG, Jaguar Land Rover and HPCL fuel stations.
Strengths: the widest combined city-and-highway footprint, competitive pricing at roughly ₹17/kWh, and the reassurance of a large utility behind it. In our data it ranked second on discoverability and led Pune outright. Weaknesses: as the oldest large network, some sites use older hardware, and app reliability is a recurring theme in owner forums.
2. Statiq
A digital-first network that has expanded aggressively since 2020, and the operator that appeared most frequently in our six-metro analysis. Statiq partners with real-estate developers, highway operators and businesses, and emphasises interoperability so users can access multiple networks through one app.
Strengths: strongest presence in the public databases drivers actually search, a polished app, and a membership option (Statiq Miles, ₹149/month for 10% off) that suits heavy users. Weaknesses: pay-as-you-go pricing at around ₹22/kWh is at the higher end, so casual users pay a premium unless they subscribe.
3. Jio-bp pulse
The Reliance–BP joint venture, and the most aggressive player on price. It operates over 5,000 charging points across 500+ locations, with roughly 95% of them fast chargers, and claims 96% network availability. Its stations sit at fuel outlets, malls, airports and highway plazas, including a 169-point hub near Bengaluru airport.
Strengths: the cheapest large network, promotional rates from ~₹15.99/kWh, a very high proportion of fast chargers, and locations that already have facilities while you wait. Weaknesses: coverage is concentrated around fuel-retail sites, so it is thinner in residential areas than Tata Power or Statiq.
4. ChargeZone
Built specifically around highway corridors and high-capacity charging, ChargeZone is the network most associated with intercity EV travel, with a strong presence on the Mumbai–Pune and Bengaluru routes. It serves passenger cars, buses and commercial fleets.
Strengths: genuine highway coverage where it matters, high-power chargers that suit long journeys, and solid presence in Delhi NCR in our data. Weaknesses: pricing at ₹18–25/kWh is toward the top of the market, and the urban footprint is smaller than the corridor network suggests.
5. Shell Recharge — the network missing from every other list
Shell Recharge registered 28 listed stations in our analysis, 25 of them in Bengaluru, placing it fifth on discoverability — ahead of several operators that appear on every national list. It is almost entirely absent from published rankings, which is a genuine gap in how India's charging market is covered.
Strengths: real, verifiable density in Bengaluru, backed by a global fuel-retail operator with the balance sheet to keep expanding. Weaknesses: heavily concentrated in one city; if you drive outside Bengaluru you currently cannot rely on it.
6. Glida (formerly Fortum Charge & Drive)
Rebranded from Fortum in 2023, Glida focuses on fast and ultra-fast urban charging, with 740+ charging points across 30+ cities and 16 states. Its flagship site near Hyderabad's Shamshabad Airport houses a 200 kW ultra-fast charger with six satellite dispensers.
Strengths: high-power hardware, operator-agnostic approach, transparent app pricing. Weaknesses: a smaller network than the top four, so it works best as a secondary option rather than your primary network.
7. Ather Grid
India's longest-running two-wheeler charging network, with over 2,700 fast-charging points across 230+ cities. Originally built for Ather scooters, it has opened up to other two-wheelers as the LECCS standard arrives.
Strengths: by far the best option for electric scooter owners, well placed at cafés, malls and offices. Weaknesses: irrelevant for cars, and interoperability with non-Ather vehicles is still being rolled out.
8. Bolt.Earth
Bolt.Earth operates a distributed, peer-to-peer light-EV charging model and states 100,000+ chargers across 2,000+ cities, citing an estimated 63% share of India's public charging points. It registered only 2 listed stations in our six-metro analysis — not because the network is small, but because its host-sponsored chargers sit on private premises and are generally not listed in open databases.
Strengths: enormous point count for two- and three-wheelers, low-cost hardware, strong app and charger-management software. Weaknesses: almost invisible in open charging databases, so discovering a Bolt charger typically requires their own app; and it is primarily light-EV rather than car-focused.
9. Relux Electric and Zeon Charging — strong regional players
Two operators that national lists overlook but drivers encounter. Relux Electric leads Chennai in our data with 7 of the city's 17 listed stations. Zeon Charging registered 19 stations across the metros, focusing on fleet and public charging. Neither will be your national network, but in their home regions they matter more than several better-known names.
10. EESL and the public-sector networks
Energy Efficiency Services Limited, a government joint venture, built out much of India's early public charging — particularly at metro stations and government sites in Delhi, where it registered 9 listed stations. Pricing is typically low, but hardware is older and uptime is inconsistent.
Battery-swapping networks — the category most lists ignore
For India's two- and three-wheeler fleets, swapping often matters more than plug-in charging, yet it is absent from nearly every "top charging companies" list. The main players are Battery Smart (the largest swap network, focused on three-wheelers and delivery), Sun Mobility (swap infrastructure with OEM partnerships), Bounce Infinity (scooter swapping, 1,000+ stations) and Chargeup (three-wheeler focused).
Swapping trades ownership of the battery for speed: a two-minute exchange instead of a two-hour charge. EV charger manufacturers and brands in India
Charge-point operators run the networks; manufacturers build the hardware. Several of India's biggest EV charger brands sell to operators rather than consumers, which is why they rarely appear in network comparisons despite being central to the industry.

Okaya claims roughly 40% of India's EV charger manufacturing and holds large public-sector contracts, including 600 DC fast chargers for HPCL and 2,550 chargers for Indian Oil. Delta manufactures at Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu, which has become a national hub for charger production, with export-ready units from 60 kW to 350 kW.

Listed EV charging companies in India (NSE & BSE)
A common search — and a genuinely different question from "which network should I use". Most of India's best-known charging networks are privately held: Statiq, ChargeZone, Bolt.Earth, Kazam and Battery Smart are all venture-funded and unlisted. Exposure to EV charging through public markets therefore comes mostly via diversified parents and hardware makers:
- Tata Power — NSE: TATAPOWER. The largest listed company with a direct public charging network.
- Exicom Tele-Systems — NSE: EXICOM. Listed in 2024; a leading Indian DC charger manufacturer.
- Servotech Renewable Power System — NSE: SERVOTECH. Charger manufacturing plus the Incharz network.
- ABB India — NSE: ABB. High-power DC charging hardware within a large industrial group.
- HBL Engineering — NSE: HBLENGINE. Batteries and charging infrastructure.
- Adani Total Gas — NSE: ATGL. Building charging alongside its gas retail network.
- Reliance Industries — NSE: RELIANCE. Indirect exposure via the Jio-bp joint venture.

Do you really need five charging apps?
Practically, yes — and it is the most common frustration among Indian EV owners. Tata Power, Statiq, ChargeZone, Jio-bp pulse and Ather each operate their own app, each with its own wallet, payment method and RFID card. A driver covering multiple cities typically ends up with four or five installed, several with money sitting idle in separate wallets.

You may still need the operator's app to start a session, but you will not waste time driving to a charger your car cannot use.
How to choose an EV charging company
Match the network to how you actually drive rather than to the size of its marketing claims:
- Mostly city driving with home charging: any network works. Optimise for price — Jio-bp pulse or Tata Power.
- No home charging: coverage near home and work matters more than price. Check which operators are dense in your area first.
- Frequent highway trips: ChargeZone and Jio-bp pulse for corridor coverage; plan the route before you leave.
- Electric scooter: Ather Grid, or a battery-swap network if you ride for a living.
- Fleet or commercial: talk to operators directly — Zeon, Magenta and ChargeZone all run fleet programmes with bulk pricing.
Partnering with a charging company — for site owners
A growing share of the enquiries we receive are not from drivers but from people with land, a shop, a fuel station or a parking facility who want to host a charger. Most major operators run partner or host programmes: you provide the site and typically the investment, and they provide branding, hardware, software, network listing and payment collection, with revenue shared on an agreed basis.
Terms vary widely — some operators fund the hardware and pay you rent, others expect you to fund everything and take a platform fee. The coverage analysis used Open Charge Map data queried on 9 August 2026 across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai, within a 40 km radius of each city centre, returning 299 listed stations. This measures how discoverable each operator is in open charging databases, not their national network size; databases under-represent chargers on private premises. We update this analysis periodically.
