India's electric two-wheeler market has crossed the 1 million (10 lakh) sales mark for calendar year 2026 — and it has done so barely halfway into the year. According to the latest Vahan registration data, 10,05,279 e-scooters, electric motorcycles and mopeds were retailed between January 1 and July 6, 2026. That works out to roughly 5,375 units every day, and represents 54 percent growth over the 6,54,592 units sold in the same period last year.
How 2026 has stacked up, month by month
The year opened with 1,29,265 registrations in January before dipping slightly in February (1,18,408). March then exploded to 1,99,393 units — the industry's highest monthly total ever — as buyers rushed in ahead of the new financial year. The second quarter kept climbing: 1,57,619 units in April, 1,72,530 in May and 1,94,186 in June, making Q2 about 17 percent bigger than Q1. A big accelerant has been fuel prices: petrol crossing ₹100 a litre in several cities from mid-May pushed a wave of commuters towards electric, a trend that June's near-record month made plain.
The brand scorecard: top 10 hold 93%
The milestone is heavily concentrated at the top. TVS leads with 2,60,938 iQube and Orbiter sales — a 26 percent share — and is on track to become the first brand to cross 5 lakh e-two-wheelers in a calendar year. Bajaj follows with 2,25,960 Chetaks (22 percent), and Ather has delivered 1,74,677 units (17 percent), powered by the Rizta. Hero's Vida arm has already matched 97 percent of its entire 2025 tally at 1,09,306 units, helped by the newly launched VX2. Ola Electric, the former market leader, sits fifth with 68,148 units — just 33 percent of its 2025 total — even after its recent quarterly recovery. Greaves (Ampere), River, BGauss, Simple and Revolt round out a top 10 that together controls 93 percent of all sales, leaving 16 other players to fight over the rest.
Why this matters for buyers
Scale is reshaping the market in buyers' favour: more service networks, more model choice and sharper pricing across electric scooters and electric bikes. With TVS, Bajaj, Ather and Vida all past 80 percent of their record 2025 volumes already, the industry is racing towards its first-ever 2-million-unit year. One caveat worth noting: the PM E-Drive two-wheeler subsidy is set to wind down on July 31 and is nearly fully subscribed, so buyers counting on the incentive should check eligibility before booking.
