Volvo EX90 India Debut Confirmed for August 19 — Flagship Electric SUV With up to 620 km Range

Volvo has confirmed that its global flagship electric SUV, the EX90, will make its India debut on August 19, 2026. The three-row luxury e-SUV will sit above the EC40 at the top of Volvo's electric line-up in India, and is one of two new 90-series EVs the company has confirmed for the country this year, alongside the ES90 sedan. Prices will be announced at the launch event.

800V platform, two battery options

The EX90 is built on Volvo's SPA2 architecture with an 800V electrical system — a first for the brand in India — which supports much faster DC charging than its current EVs. Two battery packs are offered globally: a 92 kWh unit paired with a single rear-mounted motor making 333 hp and 480 Nm (0–100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, WLTP range of 565 km), and a 106 kWh pack with a Twin Motor all-wheel-drive setup. The Twin Motor produces 456 hp and 670 Nm in standard form, while the range-topping Performance variant lifts that to 680 hp and 870 Nm, cutting the 0–100 km/h sprint to around 4 seconds. Depending on the variant, WLTP range extends to roughly 620 km — which would place it among the longest-range electric cars sold in India.

Lidar-based safety and a tech-heavy cabin

True to Volvo form, the EX90's headline feature is safety: it carries a roof-mounted lidar sensor feeding an advanced driver-assistance suite, alongside a full battery of cameras and radars. The cabin is a three-row, six- or seven-seat layout with a portrait touchscreen, 5G connectivity with over-the-air updates, a digital key, four-zone climate control, a panoramic glass roof, a Bose sound system and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability that can power external devices. Upon launch, the EX90 will take on the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, BMW iX and Kia EV9 in India's growing luxury EV segment.

Why it matters

Luxury EVs remain a small slice of India's market, but they are growing quickly as buyers in the segment switch to electric faster than mainstream customers.
