Keeway has entered India's fast-growing premium electric-scooter segment with the Hypevolt-R, launched at an introductory price of ₹1.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings are open for a token amount of ₹5,000. It is the brand's first electric two-wheeler for India and lands squarely against performance-focused rivals such as the Ather 450 Apex and the upcoming Ultraviolette Tesseract.
Performance: 0–40 km/h in 2.3 seconds
The Hypevolt-R is built around a mid-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motor rated at 12 kW of peak power. Keeway claims a 0–40 km/h sprint of just 2.3 seconds and a top speed of 115 km/h — figures that place it among the quickest electric scooters on sale in India rather than in the commuter class. Three riding modes — Eco, Normal and Sport — let riders dial the response up or down.
Dual removable batteries, 180 km claimed range
Power comes from a dual 5 kWh removable battery setup that Keeway says delivers an IDC-certified range of 180 km. An unusually loaded safety and feature kit
For the money, the Hypevolt-R's equipment list is generous. Safety tech includes dual-channel ABS, traction control, hill-hold and hill-descent control, cruise control, blind-spot detection and a rear reverse camera — a spread more commonly seen on cars than scooters. Convenience features run to projector LED headlamps, a full-width LED light strip, a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, a reverse mode, USB Type-A and Type-C charging ports and a 27-litre under-seat storage compartment. It is offered in two colours, Crystal White and Platinum Grey.
Why it matters
India's electric-two-wheeler market has largely been won on price and practicality, but a small premium-performance niche is now forming above ₹1.5 lakh. Keeway — part of the Hungarian-owned, China-built QJ Motor group — is betting that a heavily specced, quick e-scooter can carve out space there.
